GREGORY READE

Gregory Reade has been creating as an artist and sculptor since 1982. His early work included decorative masks, special effects makeup and animation models for short films. A brief stint in movie production and special effects spurred his interest in sculpture. Further inspired by travel to Paris, Florence and New York, Reade left a computer industry career to devote all of his time to sculpting.

Reade now specializes in classical figurative sculpture in bronze. The permanence and natural beauty of bronze makes it the ideal medium for his three-dimensional work. Reade's sharp eye and sly humor are keenly wrought in this expressive material, as both single and multiple figure compositions. The more complex, multiple-figurine pieces allow for the direct expression of relationships between subjects, a result that can only be implied by solitary figures.

The thrill of expressing thoughts and emotions through the human figure is central to Reade's sculpture. Reade continues to create his sculpture at an accelerated pace, further energized by the successful completion of each project and the growing recognition of a "G.Reade" work. He looks forward to the audience reaction to his compositions and exposing people to the thoughts and ideas he's expressed.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“I have always been fascinated by the multitude of communication forms humans are able to communicate with. Beyond speech, I’ve been drawn to theater, film and lately the internet as methods of communication. However, all of these seem smoke and mirrors compared to the experience of communicating directly in person with another human. Most communication forms lack the interaction and up close interplay that is vital for our lives.

Sculpture cannot encompass the entire personal communication experience, but it can utilize some of the major elements to bridge the gap between artist and viewer. These elements, such as body language, action and emotion are all used by the human body to express incredible ideas and feelings in sculpture. Silently.”
