Kimberly Dow, born and raised in New Hampshire in 1968 does not remember a time when she wasn’t an artist. Her sales began when she was just 18 and still studying at Plymouth State University towards her BFA. Her florals were hung by Leighton/Tracy Gallery whom she worked for part time while attending college. This gallery who had a sister gallery in Boston at the time sold all of her pieces within the first month.

Despite attending college, Dow considers her painting to be primarily self-taught. She has had the opportunity over the years to study with Master Realists William Whitaker and Timothy C. Tyler.

Dow is an accomplished still life, floral and landscape artist, but for many years now has concentrated her work on figurative. ‘I want to tell a story with my paintings,’ she states. ‘I leave enough mystery in the story so that the viewer can create their own narratives.’ Much of her work revolves around relationships and the human experience. She believes there is no stronger nor more dramatic or telling art then those paintings that deal with people. Always using amateur models for her work she carefully chooses the narrative and theme, costumes, poses, lighting and composition for her paintings. She is a prolific artist who has worked full time at her craft for 20 years.

Dow’s work is collected nationally and she has been involved with many major Exhibitions around the country including ones at the Salmagundi Club in New York City and the International Masters of Realism Competition/Exhibition. Her work is in numerous private and public collections and her awards are many. She is associated with several professional groups including the Oil Painters of America, the Portrait Society of America and the International Guild of Realism. Her work has been published extensively including in the book ‘How Did You Paint That? 100 Ways to Paint Flowers and Gardens,’ by International Artist Publishing.

Kimberly resides in Corpus Christi, Texas where she lives with her three children and paints obsessively full time in her studio.
