Marlena Chumo paints nature, primarily landscapes and flowers, where her traditional themes in landscape painting are often taken to the point of abstraction. Marlena's work offers a sense of pure joy… the uncomplicated magnificence of a life in constant bloom. With an obsession for texture, rhythm and line, each brush stroke, often applied in a heavy, impasto and alla prima manner, emphasizes the random feel of nature. By creating a unique level of dimension, depth and movement, Marlena's work takes on a tactile or sculptural result, where detail is revealed through the application of many layers of color.
In order to experience the abundance of nature first hand as the inspiration for her paintings, Marlena takes regular pilgrimages around the world, seeking out flora and fauna that reigns in perpetual glory. Marlena has spent time in Monet’s Garden, a location that has captivated the interest of artists from around the world for over a century and is the site for many, famous impressionist paintings. She has also traveled all over Tuscany and the South of France, among many other locations in Europe, as well as the Midwest and California. A member of the California Art Club, the Pacific Palisades Art Association, and the National and Southern California Women's Caucus for Art, Marlena's work hangs in private collections across the country.
