Robert C. Kirkpatrick, BFA and MFA from The Maryland Institute, College of Art, has painted and taught in the Baltimore area for the past thirty years. His realistic landscapes, still-lifes, and portraits are represented in collections nationally.

Mr. Kirkpatrick has taught art in the Baltimore area: 32 years for Baltimore County Public Schools, seven years at The Maryland Institute in the Young People’s Studio, and ten years at the Muse Studio. He currently teaches oil painting at the Mitchell School of Fine Arts.

While teaching full-time, he exhibited in both group and solo shows, selling works through exhibits and private commissions. He now devotes himself to his painting career and is represented by three galleries.

His works emphasize the play of light, whether on water or stone as in his landscapes or on glass and cloth as in his still-life studies. He employs the glazing techniques of the Old Masters but with a contemporary feel. A lifelong resident of Maryland, his landscapes portray the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay, the Gunpowder River, and the Maryland countryside from the Atlantic to the Appalachians.

His still-lifes depict a spectrum of surface qualities ranging from transparent to reflective to opaque. His subjects include antiques, fruit, and a variety of objects enabling him to create compositions which show an interplay of light and shadow.
